Chapter 9: Recommendations

• We recommend using the AI system as a support instrument for the physician in assessing topographic maps.
• We recommend paying particular attention to elevation, tangential curvature, and refractive power maps when examining suspect cases and comparing information from multiple maps.
• We recommend reviewing the topographic definition of keratoconus and investigating whether irregularities and aberrations can be included as diagnostic criteria, at least in suspect and borderline cases.
• We recommend further studies with topographic devices based on the AS-OCT principle, as their images are more accurate and they additionally provide an epithelial thickness map not available with other devices.
• We recommend a multicentre study to obtain a larger training and test group and thereby potentially increase the accuracy and reliability of the system.
